Maria set out to get her 42 second graders ready for third grade math but pivoted after a week of observation showed that dysregulation, not academics, was the real ceiling. Her data identified task demand as the second most common trigger and the more fixable one, so she built the baseball-themed Home Plate Club mastery system to address it. Referrals dropped sharply and 18 of 20 tracked students reached mastery on at least half of four math standards.
